College Street Style

Friday, October 5, 2012

So I thought I was stoked about starting a new blog, but I have found something I am even more stoked about! Three words.

College. Street. Style.

Yeah, you heard me. Ok, so many of you are probably wondering what the heck I am even talking about, so I will go ahead and explain now.

It all started with this blog post by Introvert's Introduction. Pretty much what I will be doing is documenting the different styles students wear on any campus I happen to be on! I am really excited about this you guys! I think it mostly has to do with the fact that it scares that crap out of me. I am not a forward person, and this is WAY out of my comfort zone. I just want to get out of it though. I am sick of feeling like I am stuck inside some kind of a shell. I am ready pretty much just not care, and put myself in what will most likely be awkward situations. I am so stoked!

To put my own little twist on things I am going to try to do a bike feature at least once a week. This will be someone with good style and riding their bike around campus! Since winter is just around the corner this might have to change to a once-a-month thing, but either way it's happening.

I hope this works out! I am going to do everything in my power to make it happen. Wish me luck! I am going to need it.

No, I am not watching (500) Days of Summer right now... that was a lie.

Tongue Tied

So if you are a reader that followed me over here from my old blog I Would Like To Call It Beautiful you would know my current obsession with Grouplove. Here is news for you all... it hasn't stopped. I am really trying you guys, but I just CAN'T stop listening to them! If one of their songs comes on Pandora or shuffle, I can't help but turn up the volume and rock out. It is just a necessary reaction. It doesn't help that one of my best friends is also involved in this current situation. We don't blast their music with the sun roof open, and all the windows down...or randomly break into song and dance on our way to class no matter how awful we are at singing..and dancing. Only crazy people do those things... yeah.

Well I am going to try to get all my Grouplove out right now, so here are some of my most favorite songs by them. Prepare yourself for awesomeness!

"Colours" (of course)
"Naked Kids"
"Tongue Tied"
"Gold Coast"
"Itchin' On a Photograph"

Just to name a few.

Also, the only girl in Grouplove, Hannah Hooper, happens to not only have an amazing voice, but she is an incredible artist. This is how things happen when I like things. I want to know more about them. I would like to think that it is just a natural response that everyone has. If you like things, you learn more about them. It might just be because I am an insanely curious person. That little fact works against me sometimes. Some people don't like curious people. Anyways... I wanted to know more about Grouplove so I did some research while on the bus to school earlier this week. This is how I found out that originally Hannah Hooper was not a musician, but an artist. The singing came later when the band met. I also found out that she does the art for most of Grouplove's merchandise and CD covers! Isn't that awesome!? Here are some examples of the lovely Hannah Hooper's art.

Aren't they just lovely. Yeah, I thought so.

Now for some rambling! This next week is fall break, and I can't even begin to explain my excitement! I don't know what it is about this year in college, but I need every break that I can get. It gets hard to stay motivated sometimes when you are still taking just a bunch of generals. I am so ready to be in my major, and taking classes that I am actually interested. Not math. Math sucks.

My friend Bianca and I have a whole fall break "To Do" List. It is quite amazing I must say. It involves bike riding, hiking, making food, and watching good movies. I am so stoked! We are always making all sorts of lists. That's what happens when you pretty much only hang out with one person. You start making lists. Lots and lots of lists. But you love every second of it! What I am most looking forward to is actually not on the list, but that's ok! We are going on a little road trip to Logan to visit some friends. Let me just say one thing. My best friend in the entire world happens to live in Logan, so I guess you could say I am pretty dang excited! The lovely best friend's name is Sarah. I did just get to see her a couple of weeks ago, but I take every chance I can to go and visit because I usually don't get to see her that often. Even if she is just an hour and a half away. If you knew the car I had, you would understand why sometimes that is a hard thing. My car is actually freaking AWESOME, it's just slow as crap and doesn't like the canyon you need to go through to get to Logan very much. That's alright. It's worth it! I just can't do it that often. I don't want to push my luck.

The most disappointing thing EVER happened today. So here is something about me. I also love Of Monsters & Men. So much that my lovely best friend, Sarah, was going to go on a little road trip with me to go see them in Boulder, CO. We really lucked out, because one of her close friends lives there so it would have been a fun, cheap trip. So randomly I decided to look up the tickets again because I had forgotten what day it was. Well, they are no longer playing a show there! What the heck! How could this happen?! I wish I could express my disappointment, but I just can't. If anyone knows anything about this, please let me know! I keep hoping that maybe my eyes were just not working today, and I just missed it... or something like that. Bad luck strikes again.

There is another thing about me. I for some reason have really bad luck. I don't really know when it all started, but it is to the point where I just find things funny now. If something unlucky happens to me I just laugh and add it to the list. It really is quite funny. My friends comment about it quite a bit. I don't really care though. It always makes for a great story, and usually funny memories. I can handle bad luck. It's when I have good luck that I start to get worried.

Well I think that is it for today, but before I go I just wanted to give a little shout out to the lovely ladies that designed my awesome header and lovely welcome image! Tanya and Allison of Den of Thieves. If you are just starting out, or want a blog face lift I would highly suggest these two wonderful ladies. They really make you a part of the whole process which was really nice. Pay them a visit!

Everyone have a lovely weekend!
Happy Friday

Blogs I'm Lovin'

Thursday, October 4, 2012

So I thought I would kick things off by sharing with you some of my favorite bloggers at the moment. Here are three lovely ladies that you guys should know about!

This is the lovely Lauren's blog. I just stumbled upon her blog this week, and I am already in love. I love how open she is, and how she isn't scared to talk about things that most people would be scared to talk about. Not to mention that her outfits are absolutely adorable! Check her out!

Trop Rouge

Next is the funky Christina from Trop Rouge. I have said it before and I will say it again. I am a little obsessed with her hair. I know that if I had it I would probably hate my life, but I can't help but wonder what it would be like to have crazy locks like that. I adore her style. She always looks so laid back and put together. She is a major fashion inspiration for me. Go visit this lovely lady!

Missing Lovebirds

Alrighty, now for the amazing Elanor from Missing Lovebirds. If I could choose to switch lives with someone it would probably be her. She is kind of living my dream! Just moved away from home, and living in Seattle going to college. I am OBSESSED with her pictures, and I love her outfits. I think I might just love her because of her hair. I love finding girls that have haircuts like me. I feel like we should be in a club or something. Anyway, I just love reading about her adventures in Seattle and how I feel like I am experiencing it through her pictures. It makes me want to move someplace new, and just start over. Who know... maybe I will! Definitely go on over and check out this lady as well.

Well that's it for today. I hope you enjoy these blogs as much as I do.
Happy Thursday!

Hello

Hello fellow bloggers! Welcome to A Day In The Life. I have been waiting to start this blog for quite some time now, and I can't even begin to explain my excitement to get started. I guess I should start with telling you a little bit about myself.

I am a college student attending the University of Utah. I am planning on majoring in Communication Science & Disorders so I can later do Speech Pathology. This is the plan so far, but you never know what you might find along the way.

I am going to be completely honest. I am not the biggest fan of the U. I don't really know why, but it just doesn't seem to suit me. I have hopes of transferring to the University of Washington sometime in the next couple years to finish out my degree. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

I love a lot of different things. You will probably hear a lot about all those things here on this blog. I am apologizing right now that what is coming next is going to be a lot of rambling. Here are some of the things I love. I love cameras, record players, indie music, piano, hiking, biking, fall weather, traveling, chai tea, vintage (I blame my mother for this), clothes, dogs, cats (sometimes), seeing movies in the theater, CONCERTS, and a million other things that I can't think of right now. Yeah...

So that is a little bit about myself. You will continue to learn more as I get this thing going. This is the place where I will be sharing my every day happenings. Things will probably get a little random around here, so just prepare for that.

Well, I hope you stick around to see what happens in A Day In The Life of Shelby.
Get ready!
