So here is what I wore a couple days ago. I have been waiting forever to pair this headband with an outfit, and for some reason this was the one. It took me a while to figure out how I wanted to style it with my very awkward length hair. Eventually I figured it out, and I have got to say I like the outcome. I don't usually go for things that are pink, but the polka dots sold me.
Alright, so most of you know I am a HUGE Criminal Minds fan aka Reid fan aka Matthew Gray Gubler fan. Anyway, yesterday's episode ripped me too pieces, and I am still trying to recover. There is not much I can say other than I am scarred forever more by witnessing a sobbing Reid, and I no longer believe in love or happy endings. Okay that might be a stretch, but seriously that is how heartbreaking and emotionally scarring this episode was. It was seriously unreal, and I still don't know what to think about it. It was one of those moments were something awful happens, and it is like instant tears appear out of nowhere. Even if you don't want to be sad your brain knows that you can't mentally handle it without crying. So cue the tears! Seriously though, it was awful.. but incredible. Oh Criminal Minds, why do you do this to my brain??
So I haven't posted in a bit, and I have really been racking up the awkward moments. It is quite fantastic. So here it goes!
That awkward moment when you actually think about wearing a fake wedding ring to your stats class because you feel left out.
That awkward moment when you are the only person on the planet that didn't watch the Golden Globes... so you feel left out.
That awkward moment when you introduce yourself to someone and they respond with the following phrase, "OH.. you're Shelby." Uh... what the heck is that supposed to mean?
That awkward moment when you can tell you are unwelcome someplace, but you have no idea how to get out.
That awkward moment when you freak out to your friends about the new Criminal Minds episode that will be on later that night (Tuesday), but Criminal Minds is on Wednesday.
That awkward moment when you can tell someone is staring at you through their peripheral vision. This is almost more awkward than being stared at straight on..almost.
That awkward moment when people always look at your computer funny, and you realize it might be because of these..
Well, that's all for today. I hope everyone has had a fantastic Thursday! It is time for me to go finish some homework, and send good vibes into the universe that Matthew Gray Gubler goes to Sundance. (Any contribution of good vibes in this favor would be greatly appreciated)
p.s- what happened to snapchat? I feel like it died, and I miss it!
I have decided that once a week I am going to do an outfit post. I am doing this mostly to get my face on this here blog a little more often, and because fashion is a major inspiration in my life. It only makes sense. Please be patient with me. I haven't done these types of posts for a while. I am still trying to figure out what works, and what doesn't.
Here is what I wore today!
beanie/ Cotton On :: cardigan/ friend's closet :: skeleton tee/ Matthew Gray Gubler shop :: leggings/ Cotton On :: boots/ Nordstrom
So there you have it. I understand how strange this outfit is. I didn't quite understand until I started taking pictures of it. Oh well. I was extremely comfortable, and that is all that matters in my book.
I only have a couple awkward moments for today. Yay!
That awkward moment when you decide to wear shimmery purple pants, and a shirt with a big skeleton face on it...
That awkward moment when you see a guy with a walker, and it looks like the walker needs him more than he needs the walker... and you are just looking around wondering if anyone else is seeing this.
That awkward moment when you have to bring 20 photos about yourself to your photography class, and you realize more than half of the photos you have are from Instagram.
That awkward moment when you look at the pictures you just posted to your blog, and realize your stupid lazy eye that only shows up in pictures is back to haunt you. Oh well, my camera battery died while taking these so I didn't have many options.
So it looks like I had more awkward moments than I thought. What's new, really?
I have been so thankful to be back in school. It is nice having something to do rather than just sitting around all day. Did I share my class schedule already? I don't believe I did. I am going to do that now!
So far I am loving my schedule for this spring semester. I am taking a digital photography class, which I am beyond stoked to be taking. I am excited to really learn all the different things I can do with my new camera, and I think it will be a good way to keep me motivated to be creative. I am taking stats which sucks, but it is the last math-like class I will ever have to take. Hallelujah! I am taking an intro to my major (Communication Science & Disorders) which I am really excited about. The only downfall is that it is online, and I suck at online classes. Say a little prayer for me that I can get through that! The last class I am taking is Society and the Criminal Mind. Soo I might be taking this class entirely based off the fact that it is kind of like Criminal Minds in a class form. So far it has been extremely interesting. A lot of people in this class have differing opinions, so it makes the discussion really interesting. I am taking this class with one of my friends, so that is just an added bonus. We both agreed that we couldn't remember that last time we had been so interested in a lecture. It is a pretty intense class.
Alright, so before I go crazy about the freaking amazing episode of Criminal Minds yesterday, I am going to tell you a story.
Once upon a time I went to this Mary Kay party thing on a Wednesday (aka Criminal Minds day), and I didn't get home until like 10:30pm. Everything was good though because I had recorded the newest Matthew Gray Gubler (aka favorite human) episode. I was set! I walked in the door, and my younger brother (who actually looks like an older brother, because he is so freaking tall) was watching sports center, or whatever the heck it is called. I calmly (not calmly) told him he needed to get out, because I needed to watch the new episode of Criminal Minds. You know what he did? Pretended he was asleep. Are you effing kidding me right now? I was not a happy camper. I will not explain how I got him to leave, but I did get him to leave.
So now I was preparing myself. I had been waiting a good month for this episode. Not only did Gubler direct it, but this was the episode that the "mystery" girl was going to be revealed. Let's just say I pretty much had to mentally prepare myself all day for it. I was ready now. I found the recorded episode and started it. As it started I was a little confused. They were showing a preview of the next week's episode. What the heck? SOOO confused. Then... it happened. The effing Grammy Nomination whatever started playing. WHAT THE HECK!!!! I was furious. I don't know how it happened, but my dang tv recorded the Grammy thing instead of Criminal Minds. Are you even kidding me? It wasn't even the Grammys!!! They made an entire show/concert for the "reveal" of the Grammy nominations! What is this?! Who does that?!
Now I sat with the tv paused just hoping I could will it with my brain powers to start playing Criminal Minds. It did not work. So now I am calling my friend Paige whose phone has just died. It was 11:00pm, and I was ready to drive over to her house, bang on the door, and demand she let me watch Criminal Minds on her tv. I didn't end up doing that, but I wanted to! Instead I called her a billion and one times. So as I am almost in tears, yes actual tears, I fumble through my phone trying to see if there are any episodes online yet. Guess how many websites had the episode that was only released two hours ago...ZERO!
After this I thought I was defeated, but I was not giving up. I tried to calm myself down a little bit (with no success) and decided to look it up on my computer. You guys... I seriously don't even know how it happened. I really must be living right because CBS put it on their website. Heck freaking yeah! It truly was a miracle. Especially since that was the first place I checked, and it hadn't been there the first time I checked. I could finally breath again. I then started what is probably the greatest episode EVER.... Now I am actually going to talk about it.
Alright, so I am pretty much just going to go through from the very beginning and talk about everything that came to my head. Sound good?
First off, mystery girl and Reid talking in like the first five minutes! Already dead. Seriously, I died. I wasn't digging the scarf that looked like a turtle neck that Reid was wearing, but I got over it. Then what the she has a stalker, and what the she decides out of nowhere she wants to meet Reid! Well alright then. And what the she calls him Spence. Best thing of my life. You guys, Reid is in love! It is so fantastic!
One of the victims has my car! Whoo! My car is in an episode of Criminal Minds. It is fantastic.
Alright, now for the dislocating of the shoulders... are you even serious? I seriously felt like I was going to throw up, but I couldn't stop watching it! That seriously might have been one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen. Like for real, I have chills right now even thinking about it. It was just plain nasty. Ewwwww!
Okay, now I don't even know what to think. Umm human marionettes?? Are you even kidding me?? Who comes up with this stuff? How freaking creepy is that?!
Now about this dance/performance of the human marionette. You guys, this might be the creepiest thing I have ever seen. At the same time, this might be the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Freaking Matthew Gray Gubler! What are you doing to my head. You want to hate this performance soo much because of what is happening, but you can't help but admire the beauty of it all. It seriously was stunning, which makes you feel like a creep because you enjoyed it! So many mixed feelings! It really is magnificent though. Here is a video I found. The quality is absolutely awful, but hopefully you can see the beauty of it.
So now it is time for Reid talking about his "mystery" girl. Are you even kidding me? Is he even real? Who freaking writes this stuff?
"She is already the most beautiful girl in the world to me."
"I just wouldn't want to ruin something so special over something so trivial as looks."
No, I did not watch that part like five times...
This was the one and only time I have actually like the new girl. Wow, I don't even know her name. That is how much of an impression she has made on me. This scene were she is talking with Reid actually made me start to like her, and I think I am going to learn her name now.
But seriously you guys, this scene was the cutest thing on the planet. Reid is pretty much perfect.
Ok, now it is time to freak out some more about how absolutely insane and creepy this episode was! Ok, let's get to the actual performance. First off I am all like, "Wtf, this guy has an audience? If they only freaking knew!" Then I was all, "Wtf, the midget is a freaking doll!!" After the F.B.I come in and catch the sucker I am all, "Why the heck are these people clapping?" AND THEN I was like, "WTF, THE AUDIENCE IS FREAKING PUPPETS!"
This episode I swear! It was like five minutes of just mind blowing information. You would think one thing was enough, and then there was another freaking twist! It is two days later, and I am still recovering from it. I just don't understand who could possibly come up with the stuff. Brilliance I tell you! Brilliance!
So after the crazy twists ended it was time for the date! The date! As in Reid was meeting the freaking mystery girl! I have been waiting a month for this, and then... it doesn't even happen! Fml.
I did think the getting ready scene was hilarious! They are too perfect together. It is just unreal. I know it is a dang tv show, but I love it. I was disapointed that they didn't get to meet, but the revealed her face! Finally! If they hadn't done this, I probably would have thrown my computer. I couldn't take it anymore. So yay to knowing the face of the mystery girl!
So apparently it has been forever and a day since I have posted about my life lately. Oops. Moving on. I don't know if I have told you all this, but I LOVE HALLOWEEN. Like seriously, it is my favorite holiday out of all of the holidays. I love dressing up. I love candy. I love scary movies. I love haunted houses. I love all things spooky. I just love Halloween! Yeah.
So I pretty much just was in love with my costume. It all came together very last minute aka the day before Halloween. I had been planning on spending Halloween with Bianca, and some of her friends. For some reason it didn't dawn on me that I needed to dress up until she was asking me what I was going to dress up as... the day before. I went into a little bit of a panic (not really). It was then that inspiration struck me. I just knew it was perfect. I would be the most amazingly perfect human specimen to walk the earth. His name (yes, his) is....
Dr. Spencer Reid
(aka Matthew Gray Gubler, aka the perfect human)
I said it out loud, and from that point I was committed. After school I went straight to Urban Outfitters and Forever 21. Did I get weird looks for shopping in the men's section? You know I did! Except for in Urban. They didn't give me weird looks there. Anyways, I searched the racks for sweater vests, sweaters, earth tones, checkered button ups, and of course the famous Reid half-frame wayfarer glasses. I constantly was sending pics to my girls Paige and Rexann making sure that everything I chose was "Reid" enough. After getting the ok from them I bought my items, and headed out of those stores with success in my hands. I seriously scored some awesome finds you guys! Especially the glasses that were actually sunglasses at first. I had to have the guy at Urban take the lenses out for me, because I knew I would break them. It is a good thing I did! He ended up having to go into the back room and use a tool to get one of them out!
Anyways, I was extremely psyched to be Reid. It was quite the process you guys. It involved four pairs of pants, three different hairstyles, five different shirts, a "how to tie a tie" YouTube video, and purple eyeshadow for the Gubler eyes. After all of this I would like to say I came out victorious!
Success!!
Other than my AWESOME costume, my Halloween consisted of too much candy, donuts, queso dip, friends, car rides, Criminal Minds, High School Musical China (which I would go as far as to say it could be classified as a horror movie), and handing out candy to one little cute watermelon. Soo I would have to say Halloween was a success.
Other than Halloween, life has been pretty normal. School is still kicking my butt, and work is work. I am extremely excited for next semester of school though. I am taking a digital photography class! Finally I will know how to ACTUALLY edit photos. None of this faking it business. I also have no clue how to use a digital camera, so that might be nice as well. I hope everyone had an awesome Halloween. Any fun costumes?
Here are the rest of my Instagram photos of things that have been happening lately. They go back to like two weeks ago. Oops.
Long story short. One of my dogs bit this dog in the butt. It resulted in poor Bentley having to wear my little brother's underwear.
Officially decided to go back to wearing converse.
Switchfoot! This was a teenage dream fulfilled.
I was so excited to go see "Perks of Being a Wallflower" that I took this picture.
My Gublerland package!! And my awesome new stickers that are so proudly being displayed on my laptop.
Happy Gublerween! And a nice note from the head Gube himself.
Poor Bentley and his butt injury :(
My Reid glasses that I can't seem to stop wearing. Even though they have no lenses..
Well there you have it. That right there is what has been happening in my life lately. Pretty crazy stuff right?! Yeah, not too much happens on a day to day basis in the life of Shelby. Just A LOT of awkward moments. Nothing wrong with that right? What I am looking forward to at the moment is the fact that it's No Shave November. Oh yeah, baby! Campus is about to get a lot more enjoyable. Haha I don't know what it is about a man with a beard. It is just a good thing. Oh, and I am going to see The North Valley with some friends tomorrow night! So stoked!!! Check them out here. I kind of love them at the moment, so I am very happy that they are playing in SLC. Whoo!
There seriously are just too many things to love about fall. It is just the perfect season. Plus, it is the season that Halloween takes place in, and I am pretty sure Halloween is my ALL TIME favorite holiday.
One of my absolute favorite fall activities is carving pumpkins! So... that is what I did yesterday. Whoo! I got a call from Bianca asking if I would like to join her and a couple of her friends for the fall festivities of pumpkin carving. Of course I couldn't say no! So I hopped in my car and was off.
I knew immediately what I wanted to carve into my pumpkin. I feel like I should give you some background. I have a twitter. Yeah, I never thought that would happen, but an evil- doer (aka Bianca) convinced me to get one. All it took was showing all the insanely hilarious people on that thing. It sadly didn't take much. I am ashamed. Anyway, I follow Matthew Gray Gubler who just happens to post the most entertaining pictures of all time, and is quite hilarious. So it turns out he is kind of an artist. Who knew!? Mr. Gubler also enjoys Halloween, so he made his very own Gublerween t-shirt with his very own Gublerween design. Here it is.
Meet "Mr. Skeleton Head"
I kind of felt like I had no choice but to carve Mr. Skeleton Head in my pumpkin. One reason being I was one of the lucky people that actually purchased the limited edition Gublerween before they sold out... in less than a day. Yes, I do feel pretty cool! Anyway, here is my version of Mr. Skeleton Head!
Pretty awesome right?! I am pretty proud of it. It is just a little guy pumpkin, but it now sits proudly on my desk. I can see it right now. It is so cute. Even if I spilled candle wax all in the inside. Oops..
It was quite the fun night! It included roasting pumpkin seeds, eating pumpkin pie, and making new friends.
Have any of you done a post on your awesome pumpkin carvings?!?
Happy Sunday everyone.

The amazing Gube shot was found here. Unfortunately, the awesome shirt is sold out, but he has some more awesome things in his shop. Check it out!
Sorry for the break. Life has been a little crazy at the moment. You think I would have more time to blog since I have been on fall break, but that didn't happen. Not because I have been particularly busy. I just haven't felt like blogging. Instead, I have spent my time watching way to many episodes of Criminal Minds, discovering that Matthew Gray Gubler is the perfect human, finding an AMAZING mini series on youtube called The Beauty Inside, comforting friends, and listening to music. I wish I could say that I am ashamed, but I am not. Also, if you don't know who Matthew Gray Gubler is... first off, shame on you! Here he is.
Yup... he is the perfect human.
Anways, Bianca and I pretty much failed to complete anything on our fall break "to do" list. Yeah we pretty much suck. Oh well. We did get to go to Logan though! It was a much needed break. I just adore Logan to pieces, and always have a good time up there. I took some pictures in the car... Yeah I really just fail. Haha
Yes, I realize that is probably the ugliest picture of my friend and I on the planet, but I really don't even care. It was the only one I took of both of us, so that is what you get. Sorry Bianca. We know no one reads this anyway. Hahaha!
