This is kind of beautiful isn't it? This is the amazingly talented Glen Hansard for those of you who don't already know. You probably know him from the movie Once, or from his band The Swell Season (or maybe even The Frames?). I was lucky enough to see him perform a couple summers ago at Red Butte Gardens. This concert is still the best concert I have ever been to EVER, and we all know I have been to my fair share of concerts. I seriously have never seen a more talented musician play live. It was once of the most incredible experiences. Just being completely captivated by his music while surrounded by the beautiful mountains. It was seriously an experience. I would do anything to see him perform again! Maybe this time in Europe??

Seriously you guys, who is this guy! Flawless. Chills I tell you, CHILLS!

P.s- the beautiful bus stranger was on my bus this morning. We shared a smile! At least, I think we did. It totally could have been all in my head. Yeah... that's probably what it was. Haha I didn't sit next to him today. There was no room. Boo!

I Knew You Were Trouble

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Alright everyone, confession time. I really do just love Taylor Swift. I just can't help myself ok?! Yes, I think she sucks at relationships. Like BIG TIME, but I just can't help but love her anyway. When I saw her new music video I about died. You guys, I love it! I love how it was filmed, and I think she looks fantastic. She did such a good job in this! I am a BIG fan of rocker T-Swift. Like I want her hair in this more than anything really. So here you go. Enjoy!
I'm sorry I had to do it. This has basically had me laughing for days!

Random side note: So you know how I have been doing the whole College Street Style thing? Well truth is, I have become a little uninspired with it all. I might do a few here and there, but I have thought of something better to fill its place. Ready for it.. Concert Style! Yeah, you heard me. Considering that is basically all I do anyway. Might as well take some photos of the inspiring fashion I see on pretty much a weekly basis. So be looking out for that. I am stoked!

Soul Mate?

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

You guys, I think I may have met my soul mate today. Alright, so I didn't really meet him. He rides the same bus as me to school (wow, that doesn't make me sound five or anything). I don't know who he is, but I am pretty sure we are destined for each other. Probably.

So I started noticing him on the bus a couple weeks ago. We don't always take the same bus, but have been on it at the same time a couple times the last couple weeks. He is cute you guys which is definitely a plus, but what made me notice him in the first place was how AMAZING his style is. Like for real, look at my pinterest board boys take notes and it's basically him. Kind of perfect really. And the fact that he was reading.. on the bus. I don't know if you understand how truly rare this is. IT'S RARE!

Anyways, so today I get on the bus. No big deal really. To be completely honest, I didn't even realize he got on the bus until he sat down across from me. Of course I was like, "Ooo well dressed man again!" Then something happened. Something I was not expecting, and that totally shocked me in the most wonderful way. He pulled out a copy of The Catcher In The Rye and began to read......

Alright, so here is the thing. This might be like my all time favorite book. Like, I might even like it more than The Great Gatsby you guys! Let's just say my heart started getting all weird, and my stomach started doing somersaults. Who is this guy? Who is this beautiful stranger that started riding on the bus the same time as me? Of course any normal person would have started up some conversation with him. Something like, "Oh, The Catcher In The Rye! That is one of my favorites!" or "Oh, The Catcher In The Rye. How do you like it so far?" Yeah, that is what NORMAL people would do. What do I do? I will tell you. I sit there, staring at him awkwardly, mouth slightly open, doing everything I can not to drool that this human being (that I already find quite handsome) is reading MY FAVORITE BOOK OF ALL TIME!

I don't understand how these things happen to me, but they do. I just do my best not to fall on my face most of the time. Hopefully one of these days I can muster up a simple hello to the beautiful stranger, but until I live in a world where good things happen to me (oh I hope SOME of you caught that quote) I will just stare awkwardly and do my best not to drool. Le sigh*

Things That Caught My Eye

Friday, February 22, 2013

  1. Basically, this is what I wear now. So I want all these items very VERY badly. I just love the simplicity (via Tumblr)
  2. This photo just has me itchin' for summer and Europe! (via Pinterest)
  3. This quote really caught my eye this week. Couldn't agree more. (via Pinterest)
  4. This guy.. his style is too perfect. (via Tumblr)
  5. And this guy... where can I find one? (via Tumblr)
  6. I will die if my kids are this cool one day. (via Esperanza Moya)
  7. This quote had me teary-eyed by the time I was done reading it. As most of you know, one of my best friends is serving an LDS mission and she left this Wednesday. What does this mean? I won't see her for a year and a half. I found this the day before she left, and sent it too her. I couldn't be more thrilled with this. It is basically my thoughts about our friendship explained perfectly. (via Pinterest)
Also, this baked french toast recipe has my mouth watering.
I have been obsessed with the idea with having fresh cut flowers lately, so this post just put me over the moon.

This week has been insanely busy I feel like. Lots of tests to study for, and I spend the beginning part of my week squeezing in as much time as I could with Emily before she left. This week has just been an interesting one. I am looking forward to the weekend though. Let's just say it will involve sleepovers, Perks of Being a Wallflower, waffles, concerts, and spending time with people I haven't seen in a while. Stoked doesn't even begin to cover it.

Orla Kiely Spring/Summer 2013

So I am definitely not one to look at fashion lookbooks/collections or whatever the heck you call them, but when it comes to Orla Kiely I swoon. This is the only designer I have ever found that I actually look at the outfits put together and say to myself, "I would so wear that." To like all of it you guys!

Maybe I just need to do more exploring when it comes to stuff like this. I love clothes. I believe that clothes are the one thing that you can use to express to the world who you are without having to say a word. I have just never been interested in investing my time into lookbooks or runway shows. There is just something about a short film though. I have kind of been obsessed with them lately. I have watched Free People's Roshambo video like 100 times. It is embarrassing.

I just love this little film they put together for the spring/summer 2013 Orla Kiely collection. It is so retro and vintage. Of course, anything that shows the sun practically has me crying from excitement. It is a rare sight where I live lately. This short film has me yearning to be a part of that time, and makes me want every single article of clothing it offers. It was just so well done, and I am a fan.

How do you guys feel about stuff like this? Anyone have any good suggestions of either cool short films or lookbooks?

Just another song I have been crushing on lately. I love the way their voices sound together in this song. Gives me chills people!! So take a listen.

The Dream

Thursday, February 14, 2013

I know I continue to mention this, but one of my best friends leaves for France in less than a week. She will be there for a total of 18 months, and our only communication will be through letters via snail mail. In other words, we have been spending as much time as we possibly can before she leaves. Our friendship is a funny one. It kind of started out of nowhere. We automatically clicked when we figured out we both had a love for long haired boys, beards, and music. After going to one concert together it was almost like we were instant best friends. I am so unbelievably grateful for the opportunity I have had to get to know her, and I am so lucky to have her as  friend. We are basically the same person, don't even worry about it.

Yesterday I was reading Shawnee's post (check out her blog here) about living a simple life, and basically bringing out your inner hippie. This post just made me itch for a dream I have ALWAYS had. A dream that is so impractical, but I believe the experience would be worth it. The dream of taking a summer to move to some small beach town, living in the cheapest apartment you can find, bringing just a backpack of "supplies", and basically spending the summer on the beach. Learning to surf, skateboarding/biking to get you places, no social media, no make-up, a little job at a little cafe. Really just living as simply as you can, and enjoying earth and all it has to offer. I know this is a bit cheesy.. alright maybe a lot cheesy, but it has always been my dream. Just for a summer at least. Anyone else ever feel like this, or have dreams like this?

The reason I even bring it up is because after I saw Shawnee's blog post I immediately text my friend about it. Later that day we went to lunch, and basically planned it out for when she gets home. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I know that with her it will actually happen. We get things done you guys! Haha we come up with goals, and we accomplish them. We have already completed a bunch of goals we had for before she left, so I know that we will do it. Seriously, I couldn't be more thrilled! You know how exciting it is to have a fun that isn't all talk? It obviously won't be for a while, but there is just something about knowing it will happen. Ahhh! I don't know. I don't know what to say about it anymore.

I really am just so thankful to have a friend that I seriously share everything and more in common with. I feel like it has been a long time coming. Haha So Emily, this post is for you. Only two more years until we make "the dream" a reality. Wow, I make it sound like we are in a relationship or something.. Haha Thank you for being just as crazy as me at heart. Thank you for liking the "weird" boys with me, even when they suck. Thank you for being my concert buddy, and going to like a million and one concerts with me. I can't believe this all started because we just happened to be riding the same bus to school. I know when we first started hanging out it was a little awkward, so thank you for continuing to go and do stuff with me. Thank you for being my only friend to believe in The North Valley, and go to every freaking show like stalkers. You seriously have become one of my best friends, and I thank God every single day for giving me a friend like you. I think we both can agree that it is so important to have a friend that you can do the things you love with, and how different it is when they actually love those things to. I am going to miss you like crazy, but there will plenty of letters filled with stories (expectation and reality), pictures, and those lady things that for some reason Europeans don't believe in. I love you girl. You are going to be an incredible missionary, and France is lucky to have you (and all those other cool places that are a part of your mission). Take a billion pictures, and we will go through them all when we are re-reading our letters and living in Hawaii!

Challenge Yourself

So as I mentioned before, I have been in a huge fashion rut lately. It is like no matter how hard I try I just can't seem to get passed it. I have been looking at pinterest and lookbook for inspiration, but I really am just not inspired by any of the new looks I am seeing.

I have decided to go back to the basics. What I mean by this is for the next month I am only going to wear dresses and skirts. NO PANTS! I know, crazy. I have just really been trying to figure out what MY style is lately. I know this is something that will always change, but I want to have a style that defines me.
So now comes the hard part. What kind of style defines me? Don't get me wrong, I love a good pair of jeans, a band tee, and some vans. If I could wear that every day I probably would just because of comfort, but when I look in the mirror I am not satisfied. Every once in a while it is just what I need, but I don't know if that is my thing. After thinking long and hard about this, I remembered something my friend Sara said back in this post. Just how inspired she was by the old days when ladies were ladies, and to only wear jeans on bad days. It made me realize that the style I want to portray is one of class. I really believe that the way you dress determines your attitude towards the day, and how you interact with people. I am choosing to only wear dresses and skirts for a month, because I know that when I do I have a more positive attitude towards my day. I sit taller, eat better, and I try harder to use a more sophisticated vocabulary. This is the kind of person I want to be, so I am going to try it out. This is coming from a girl who refused to wear any type of skirt until high school so it may be a little tough at first, but I am determined people! So wish me luck, because I am starting today!

Young Blood

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

Basically, I have been obsessed with this songs. I am also in love with the music video. Probably because it reminds me of summer... and it needs to be summer. You guys, something is seriously wrong with me. I used to love winter, but every year I get sick of it earlier and earlier. Like I was done with winter the day after Christmas. What is wrong with me?! Winter is beautiful! But really it needs to be winter, because I hate being cold and stuck inside.

Also, have you guys seen this video? I can't stop watching it, and I don't know why! So you should definitely watch it if you haven't.. which is basically no one, because it is being spread l

Sunday, February 10, 2013

As most of you know, I am traveling to Europe this summer. Well, it continues to get closer and closer and.. I AM FREAKING OUT. Like seriously, it is all I think about anymore. As of right now I am most excited about Paris. I just love the Parisian lifestyle, and I am convinced that I am meant to be a part of it. Like seriously you guys, it needs to happen.

Because I always have Europe on my mind, Pinterest has become my new best friend. I caved and created a board just for the places I will be visiting this summer. I couldn't help myself. Now you all get to see some lovely collages I made of the places I will be traveling to this summer! Whoo! All these photos were found on pinterest, and you can find them through my pinterest page.
This last one is a little collage I found on pinterest of Barcelona. I couldn't create a good looking collage with the photos I found, so here is this one. I know it isn't the best quality, but I couldn't leave the lovely Barcelona out!

I hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday. I plan on spending my Sunday studying for my first exam of the semester. Yuck. It is also my friend Emily's LDS mission farewell, and I don't really know what to think about that. I am kind of trying to pretend that it isn't real.. and that she doesn't leave in 10 days. Boo.

Saturday, February 9, 2013

So earlier this week I grabbed my friend Emily and headed off to one of my favorite parks to take some pictures. This was kind of an intense photo shoot, and these photos really mean something to me. I put a lot of thought into these. They are inspired by someone I used to love and care for deeply. I guess the meaning behind these photographs is a person who has given up everything. They have been completely taken over by either a substance or by their own mind. I chose to depict this with cigarettes. It is just the hopelessness of someone feeling like they are trapped by something bigger than themselves. They are lost. They want to get away from it and free themselves, but they just can't. I don't know if that makes any sense, but that is the point I was trying to get across with these photos.

I have been in such a picture taking mode lately. I just keep writing down photo projects or ideas. My mind is on creative overload right now. I am hoping some cool things stem out of it. I don't really know where to start. Hopefully I can figure out something to do this next week.
Here are some random pictures I took while taking pictures. These are just some pictures I snapped as we were walking along. I love taking pictures blindly. It is amazing the pictures you come out with when you don't look through the view finder.

Well I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend! I am planning on making a dent in all these books I got from the library. I think I over did it just a bit, but I am determined to read all of them! Wish me luck.

The Classics

Thursday, February 7, 2013

I have been spending a lot of time at the library lately, which means I am gathering a lot of books. I feel like everywhere I turn I have more piles of books. It is getting a little out of hand.. but not really.
I tend to pile my books in categories. Not always, but it is something I have recently realized.
I have decided that I am going to start collecting all my favorite "classics". My only rule is I can only buy them from used book shops. There is an awesome little used book shop in downtown SLC that is just too die for. I could spend hours in there! I stopped by this weekend, and ended up coming out with The Catcher In the Rye. This was one of my all time favorite books in high school, and finding this little beauty is what gave me the idea to start collecting all my favorite "classics", or books written by some of my favorite "classic" authors (ex. F. Scott Fitzgerald aka my favorite). It was a blast going through all the old books, and I even took one of my friends with me! She had never been, and ended up going home with two adorable little books in French. She is serving and LDS mission in France, so they were absolutely perfect.

As odd as it may sound, one of my favorite smells EVER is the smell of old books aka used book stores. Call me crazy, but it is like it just smells like history. Just old and strong and fantastic. It is so mind-blowing to know that every single book in a used book store was owned by someone else. It had a whole other life before it made its way to the used book store, and I just love that. I am a weirdo though so... probably in this alone.

On a completely unrelated note, I have been having a really hard time being inspired to pick out my outfits in the morning. I just can't do it. Nothing looks pleasing to me, and I end up putting little to no effort whatsoever into my outfits. It usually comes pretty easy to me, so this little funk is freaking me out. I seriously walk out the door in jeans and a band tee half the time. Like for real you guys! It is getting bad. Maybe I am just getting lazy. Whatever it is, it needs to end. Like right now would be good. Does anyone have some good ideas/inspiration to get out of a fashion funk? Absolutely any advice will be accepted. I am even letting my mom dress me some days, because I don't know what else to do (this is actually a good thing though, because my mom has excellent fashion sense). So please... HELP ME!

Well things have been crazy busy. I always hit a certain point in the semester where I just can't do anything anymore. I am trying to stay motivated, and I am trying to make sure I am staying creative. Yesterday I did a little photo shoot with my friend Emily. I am LOVING how some of the photos turned out, and I can't wait to share them with y'all. It was quite an adventure taking these photos, but more on that later.

I hope everyone has fun plans for the weekend. Today was my little bros birthday, so today was filled with streamers, balloons, party hats, Chinese food, and of course cake and ice cream. We do birthdays right in this house! Other than birthday celebrations I don't have a single plan for this weekend so it should be interesting. It is one of my best friend's LDS mission farewell on Sunday, and I am totally freaking out. I am not ready for her to leave! I have no idea what I am going to do without her. I fully support her and I am unbelievably excited for her, but it will be hard not having her here. I am going to loose my concert buddy! Sad face...

Concert #1

Sunday, February 3, 2013

Alright, so I know I did a post last week saying I went to my first concert of the year. I have decided that it did not count as a concert, considering it was really just a dance party. I am counting the concert I went to last night as the first concert of the year! Mostly because it was absolutely fantastic! You know how I just love The North Valley, so it only makes sense to have them be the first concert of the year. Just sayin'

The last time I had this much fun at a concert was when I saw Grouplove in the summer. As of yesterday, I hadn't seen these guys play for a little over a month. It was so much fun to get to see them again, and I forgot how much I love their music. The North Valley was headlining, so they got to play a longer set than they usually get to. I think this added to the experience. I was so used to just hearing maybe five or six songs each show. It was awesome to get to hear them play a lot of their songs. They even played some old stuff which was fantastic! It really was just fantastic you guys.
My friend and I got there a little late, so our night started off with the 2:13's. I have nothing but good things to say about these guys. I have seen them play a couple times, and every time they just blow me away. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. They are disgustingly talented, and sometimes I couldn't help but laugh because I was so impressed I didn't know what else to do. They are unreal! They just released their first EP. Go check it out here or take a listen below. My favorite song of theirs at the moment would probably have to be Ruthless.

After the 2:13's finished their set The North Valley was up. It really was just a party. I have no idea who was controlling the sound and lights, but whoever it was clearly knew what they were doing. It really magnified the show. I was very impressed. You guys already know that I love these guys, so I am not going to say too much about it. All I have to say is this was by far their best show, and it is crazy how good they have gotten. You don't notice it when you go to every show, but after taking a little break I was pleasantly surprised at their skill level for this show. So bravo guys! Here is my absolute favorite song of theirs. You can find the rest of their music here.

College Street Style: Kristie

Saturday, February 2, 2013

Name: Kristie
Major: English
What is your favorite thing to wear?
"I have probably ten different white v-neck tees, so I'm going to have to go with that. They are a great base for any number of looks for me."
Who or what inspires your style?
"Probably Moorea Seal.  She has such a great casual/comfortable/quirky thing going on."

I had a lot of fun shooting and talking to Kristie. You want to know why? Because she is a fellow blogger! Whoo! Go check out her blog The Resolution. You won't be sorry.

Kristie is actually in my digital photography class. I was stressing out about getting pictures for this post when Kristie walked in with the most amazing bag on the planet! Not only does it function as a day-to-day bag, but it is also a camera bag! Let's just say I had a little freak out when this information was expressed to me. I will take two please.

This weekend isn't exactly going as planned, but I am choosing to stay positive and just go with it. I am welcoming the changes. Last night I got to have a much needed dinner and drive with my mama. Sometimes a good talk with your mom is all you need. I know it made me feel a lot better! To make it even better we might have splurged on some frozen yogurt. If a talk with your mom can't cure your worries, frozen yogurt sure can.

So here is to hoping that today is a better day. I already know it will be. I get to go to a concert tonight!! Remember to take a breather every once in a while. I know we all get caught up in the stress of the moment. Sometimes all we need is to sit back, relax, and enjoy the little things. I hope everyone has a fantastic Saturday, and that everyone stuffs themselves tomorrow with delicious food! Superbowl anyone?

Friday, February 1, 2013

Can you even believe that it is already February?? It is kind of blowing my mind. When the heck did that happen?!

This is an outfit I wore out last weekend to go to that surprisingly fun dance party. I didn't know it was a dance party until I got there. If I would have known a sweater wouldn't have been my first choice. It is weird looking at these photos. I have hair! Strange.
 vest/ F21 :: sweater & skirt/ H&M :: boots/ Charlotte Russe
Yes, I do have to always pull weird faces. It is becoming a problem. It is getting harder and harder to just smile in pictures, so I should probably stop. Eh...

I actually really enjoyed this outfit. I have had this crop sweater for about a year, and last Friday was the first time I have ever worn it.. oops. I never could find anything to pair it with, but I love the contrast of patterns so this was a win. I think I will make it into a good layering piece. Crop sweaters= difficult.

I am so excited for this weekend! I get to hang out with some of my best friends, and I am going to an actual concert tomorrow! Whoo! This will be like my 1284 North Valley concert, but I don't see a problem with that. They are good, ok! I still can't decide if I want to bring my camera or not. I guess it will just depend on the weather.
So I wanted to share a couple photos with you. I took these yesterday in my photography class. So basically our assingments for photography or just experimenting, and figuring out why certain functions do certain things. We usually take pictures of random objects a billion different ways so we can see the differences with just the slightest changes. These are a couple of those photos. It is just my pencil, but I kind of like how they turned out. Strange, I know. Just go with it.
Everyone meet my writing utensil of choice. I got this bad boy for Christmas and it is kind of my favorite thing. You can get them at Urban Outfitters of course.

Well I hope everyone has fun plans for the weekend! Anyone watching the Superbowl? My family just happen to be 49ers fans, so this will be a fun Superbowl. I am mostly just looking forward to the food. Yeah.. Happy Friday!
